There have been quite a few guesses and jokes as to how Dick came up with the name "Flamin' Dick and the Hot Rods."
Here is the "real story" told by Dick himself.
"It all started with a 1960 Cadillac Custom two door hardtop. My friend, "Slick" Matthews and I were in my garage painting flames over the hood and front fenders on the Caddy. After working through the night, masking off the area to be painted, painting the area and then finally unmasking the car, we ended up at about 7:30 A.M.!"
"We stepped back from the Caddy and Slick said, "Alright! "Flamin' Dick!" And that, was that!
About a year later it happened. In 1985, I started forming the group. The rest, as they say, is history... What a ride!"
The last known whereabouts of the Caddy is it was sold, exported overseas, and is now on display in a bar in Europe.
